Description

Vintage black and red woven sayagata wool fabric for kimono

A bolt of vintage wool fabric for a kimono. Sold by the metre, it is 36.5 cm wide.

In excellent condition save for a small bit of damage (tiny holes) in one section at the very beginning of the bolt roll. See photos. The rest of the roll is solid and hole free. That means 10 metres of perfect fabric are available off of this roll.

The pattern is woven. It has a soft edged fuzziness to the pattern that is very charming.

This would be a great fabric for shirts or bags. The only limit is your imagination.

• Sayagata:  the manji is often found as part of a repeating pattern. One common pattern, called sayagata in Japanese, is made of of interlocking manji, left- and right-facing manji joined by lines. As the negative space between the lines has a distinctive shape, the sayagata pattern is sometimes called the “key fret” motif in English.
