Bot are in excellent used antique excellent condition, as it was taken from a partially constructed (tacked together for fitting) furisode and had never been worn or even finished being sewn.. and these would make a really super set of scarves!

• Furisode: Furisode kimonos are worn by unmarried women. Furisode means swinging sleeve. It is pronounced foo-ri-sody, with no stress on any of the syllables. In this description I use the term ‘long’, meaning from shoulder to base of sleeve and not from shoulder to wrist. Women’s furisode come in three types, each with progressively longer sleeves; the longer the sleeve, the more formal it is.

• Sayagata:  the swastika is often found as part of a repeating pattern. One common pattern, called sayagata in Japanese, is made of of interlocking manji/swastikas, left- and right-facing swastikas joined by lines. As the negative space between the lines has a distinctive shape, the sayagata pattern is sometimes called the “key fret” motif in English.
